The Department

The Department of Food Supplies, U.T. Chandigarh was established in November 1966 pursuant to the reorganization of the states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. At the time of its very inception, the Department was catering to the needs of thousands of cardholders with the strength of barely a few employees. At that time the Department had manifold functions with control of commodities like cement, bricks, edible oil under its purview.

Mission

The Food and Supplies Department functions under the supervision of the Secretary, Food and Supplies. The Deputy Commissioner, who is also Director, Food and Supplies, administers the department and day-to-day functioning is carried out by the Additional Director Food and Supplies assisted by a District Food and Supplies Officer.
